Mission Statement
The mission of the HCH library is to provide an inviting and dynamic environment, where all members of our community may discover both information and inspiration.
Library Cards
Your library card entitles you to borrow materials from all public libraries in Connecticut. To obtain a library card you need to fill out our registration form and return it signed at the library. Children may get a card in September of their Kindergarten year. Parents or guardians are required to co-sign for their child’s card. Non-residents must have a current hometown library card to borrow materials.

Borrowing
Books, CDs, Books on Tape, CD-ROMs, Books on CD, and Magazines may be borrowed for 2 weeks and may be renewed online or over the phone. Videos and DVDs may be borrowed for 7 days.
Hold it!
If the book, CD or Audio you want is not on the shelf when you call or visit, we can place your name on a hold list, notify you when it is available, and hold it for you for 5 working days.
Beyond our collection
If the material you need is not in our collection, we’ll do our best to borrow it from another library for you. To use this service, simply fill out a "Hold-It!" Request Form here on the web, or at the library, or log onto reQuest, find the item you are looking for, and send an Inter-Library Loan (ILL) request through reQuest and you’ll be called as soon as the material arrives here. Once you have finished, return the material to to HCH Library and we’ll send it back to its home library.
Renewals
Most
items, with the exception of videos and DVDs, may be renewed online, in
person at the circulation desk, or over the phone at (860) 669-2342 — unless
another person has requested the material. Videos and DVDs cannot be
renewed after the 7 day checkout period. Please return HCH Library DVDs and Videos to our building.
